Game operation
When the game is operational, several modes besides playing the game itself can be active.
- Attract Mode
- When no game is being played, messages are displayed about high scores achieved recently, operator defined messages, and the score needed to obtain a replay award.
- Press the START button one, and the credit count is decreased by one. The score "00", and "Ball 1" is shown in the display until the first playfield switch scores points for the player. If credits are present, additional players may enter the game by pressing the START button before the end of the first ball in play.
- When the cabinet tilt sensor is triggered, the current game is aborted and Game Over mode is entered. When the plumb bob tilt switch is triggered, the game emits a warning to the player. When the switch is triggered for the third time, the current ball is lost for the player, but the game continues.
- Game Over is shown in the display. Then, the high scores are displayed on the display. Finally, the game proceeds to Attract Mode.
- Scores and bonuses are awarded. If a player has reached a score sufficient to earn a reward, the reward is awarded to the player. A random number between 0 and 99 appears in the display. If this number matches the last two digits of any player's score, a credit is awarded for each matching score.
Powering on the machine
Connect the backbox power cable to the power outlet of the main game box, connect the power inlet connector to the respective plug at the bottom of the game box, and finally connect this to the wall power outlet. Toggle the main power switch located behind the service door on the machine's front side to the "On" position.
The machine powers up, and about five (5) seconds later the power-on self test starts.
Power-On Self Test
During the self-test, the pinball machine checks its several subsystems for errors, trying to give a clear diagnosis of any problems that might be occur to facilitate troubleshooting.
During self-test, the 7-segment LED display also shows these codes counting backwards down to zero ("0") to give the operator a hint what is being tested currently. As long as the "Master Alert" LED is off, this is not an error condition unless there is no display for more than one minute.
If an error occurs during self-test, the "Master Alert" LED is lit and one of the following error codes is shown on the 7-segment LED display enclosed behind the service door:

Configuration Menu
In the configuration menu, several game-related settings can be made, and statistics can be viewed. There are also some error diagnostic routines which can be started from the menu.
To enter the configuration menu, press the MENU button behind the service door. The menu appears on the backbox display. To browse through the menu items, use the left and right flipper buttons. To select a menu item, press the SELECT key behind the service door. To return to a higher menu level, or exit the menu from the top level, press the MENU button.
Statistics menu
This menu lets you choose the statistics that are collected during gameplay. Using the flipper buttons, you can cycle through the following information being displayed on the backbox display:
- GAMECNT: Number of games played since last statistics reset
- AVG PTS: Average points won in a game
- AVG TIME: Average duration of a game in seconds
- BALLTIME: Average duration of one ball
- PCT FBLL: Percentage of free balls given to a player vs. games played
- PCT FGME: Percentage of free games given to a player vs. games played
- TILTS: Number of tilts
- BALLSRCH: Number of ball searches initiated
- BALLHITS: Number of ball hits against playfield elements
Game settings
In the settings menu, options to control the game flow are available for adjustment.
- BALLSPG: Balls per game. Traditionally set to 3.
Reset functions
Several counters as well as the configuration settings can be reset to factory default (which is 0 for the counters):
- STATS: Statistics are reset: GAMECNT, AVG PTS, AVG TIME, PCT FBLL, PCT FGME, TILTS and BALLSRCH are set to 0 again.
- CONFIG: Game settings are reset to factory defaults as documented in the respective manual section.
Troubleshooting
Power supply or I/O subsystem failure detected
Problem: When powered on, no diagnostic information is displayed
Solution:
XXX: Give information about board numbers and LED IDs here
Open the cabinet lid and check the power supply status LEDs. If any of them is not lighting, check the associated fuse according to the diagram PB-D04 in the parts section. If no status LED at all is lighting, check the system power switch, line voltage fuse, the power cable and the presence of line voltage in the wall outlet.
If the power supply shows no errors (status LEDs are all lighting), the I/O subsystem may be malfunctioning. Power off the machine and check connectors on the I/O controller and matrix boards PB-B03, PB-B06, PB-B08 for proper seating. Replace damaged connectors. If you have the I/O diagnostics toolkit, attach it to PB-B03 as documented, and run the diagnostics as described there.
XXX: More documentation on I/O test kit on separate place
If the error is not found this way or cannot be fixed, please contact service.
Resetting the GCC configuration
To reset all customer configurable settings in the machine (and all statistics counters), press the SELECT and MENU keys behind the service door simultaneously while the POST code "F" is displayed, and hold them pressed while "d" is displayed. When the configuration has been reset to factory defaults, the POST will start over beginning at "F" again. Release the keys then.
