Status: This project page is a collection of general information, not related to a special project of mine.
This page will be a collection of references for the production of printed circuit boards (PCBs) for home use. I also need a notepad for my experiments in this area...
Values and measurements
- 1.5L etching solution in bubble machine: room temperature to 40 degC takes about 20 minutes.
- Bungard photo material, "NaOH free"/"Feinaetzkristall": 1min exposure, 2min developer.
Tin plating with "Rosol 3" and hot air station: 240 degC melts the tin, but leaves FR4 quite unchanged. Stopping right after some puff of smoke has been released by the paste, before the whole tin has melted, and washing off the rest with water, leaves a well solderable coating on the copper, but does not shine like a professional tin coating.
- Should tin coat only SMD pads, and leave the rest to "Kontakt-Chemie Loetlack SK10".
- Drill bits: 0.8mm (1.0/1.1mm for pinheads)
Soldering THT 260 degC, SMD 300 degC (http://www.microcontroller.net says 300-340 degC for everything...) (
this is non-ROHS data) - Solder wick is good at 300 degC, even better when soaked in a drip of flux first.
- Minimum trace width: 0.03 inch
Memo
- Note for finding out the stability of PCB chemicals: Produced the current solutions on 26. Feb 2009.
Checklist
Check board size with packaging first
- Mounting holes for components and board itself
- Ground plane / shielding frame?
- Copper-free border for sawing and mounting?
- Unused I/O to debugging / add-on connector?
- Test pins for singals?
Add series resistors to "real" test interfaces against short circuits (40mA @ 5V -> 125R...)
- Power connector pins (at least GND) for testing/measurements?
